This is the official motto of Samoan tourism. We totally agree, the tropical archipelago in the middle of the Pacific really has a lot to offer. And the best about it are the people.
🌼
What, however, is not welcoming at all, is the weather. Within 10 seconds (no kidding) of getting out of the plane, we got sweat from head to toe. And we’ve been sweating for the whole two weeks.
🌼
Samoan time is different. You can compare it to Italian time. Or the Greek one.
🌼
FOOD. What to say. Probably, if the locals kept their traditions, they might have something to offer to the world (such as taro leaves with coconut cream – delicious!), unfortunately, the western cuisine has arrived even here and if the cannibalism was still practised, they would probably fry their own mother.
🌼
If stray dogs and cats are wandering on streets in other parts of the world, dozens of pigs took over Samoa.
🌼
And, on Friday night, dozens will turn into hundreds. Why is that? The reason is BOOM VODKA. In fact, we haven´t tried this delicious drink, but the name explains a lot.
🌼
What characterizes the culture of Samoa the most are the TATTOOS. When you see locals tattooed from head to toe, they´re not criminals, but most likely village leaders or something like that.
🌼
The advantage of traveling during the rainy season is clear – few people. The disadvantage may not be so obvious – well, IT RAINS.
🌼
The Pacific is not Asia. You have to pay for everything. A waterfall, a hole in the ground, a beach, every stupid little thing.
🌼
But luckily, it is not Asia in other things as well. For example, you would have a hard time finding a plastic bag in Samoa.
🌼
Samoa is mainly about culture, not about natural landmarks. Perhaps that is why we have seen several GARDEN TOILETS. They have to attract the tourists on something, right? So why not a garden toilet? Where else can you see a toilet that has a garden inside?
🌼
We saw a FIRE SHOW for the first time. The fire dancer is actually something like a MAJORETTE. Just his baton is on fire.
🌼
And SLAP DANCE is an even better tradition. You read well. A dance where the dancers slap their belly.
🌼
Finally, one practical skill you need on a deserted island. Do you know how to open the coconut? You need to HIT IT BETWEEN THE EYES!
